on many fronts today. president obama again talking trade and immigration reform down in mexico before leaving the country he named kenny pritzker of the marriott hotel family as our new commerce secretary. in boston, the marathon bombing suspect told investigators he and his brother originally planned to plant suicide bombs on the fourth of july but get the bombs done early sol they would focus on the boston marathon instead that. and a whole lot more instead coming up on current tv. going to do the young turks. i think the number one thing that viewers like about the young turks is that we're honest. they know that i'm not bs'ing them with some hidden agenda, actually supporting one party or the other. when the democrats are wrong, they know that i'm going to be the first one to call them out. they can question whether i'm right, but i think that the audience gets that this guy, to the best of his ability, is trying to look out for us. >> if you believe in state's rights but still support the drug war you must be high. >> "viewpoint" digs deep into the issues of the d

the national interest or is it about politics? we take it up in tonight's chalk talk. >>> president obama wants immigration legislation on his desk and he means right away. the gang of eight wants an immediate vote. senate judiciary vote chairman patrick leahy is holding three hearings on the bill. one last friday, one today, one tomorrow, they're done. which had to be -- the one tomorrow, homeland security secretary napolitano withdrew the hearing because of developments in boston. why do you think they're in such a rush, because a rush it is? this is even a faster pace than obama care. we all know how that turned out. almost half of our senators weren't in office the last time immigration reform was being debated, back in 2006 and '07. you would think people would want more hearings to get a few answers to some questions, to hear the american people on this burning issue. everyone keeps talking about a path to citizenship for an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants. i don't know anyone who believes that number. some say more, some say fewer. but don't you think those congressional hearings

it works for those guys but not barack obama. that astounds me. but let's talk about the immigration idea what he has been saying on immigration. we know how it plays in congress. how is it playing in texas? >> um, as you know, as a lot of people know, one of rick santorum's problems besides the fact that he had foot-in-mouth disease in the last campaign, was that he was relatively soft from the point of view from the right, his own party on immigration. he was a relatively moderate on immigration. so was george bush. you look at john mccain, who has had a variety of positions over the years but effectively is a nuanced and informed position on immigration. you get these people along the border and many folks along the border, not everybody but many political folks along the border in states like texas understand that the immigration issue is much more difficult and nuanced. there are family connections. there are economic connections. so you have in most cases not in the case of cruz, but in the case of many of these candidates the greater recognition of the value of immigration. withexc

you're a very principled man, very consistent. talk to us a little bit and quickly about the inconsistency here in the obama administration. they went into libya where there was no slaughter taking place and based it on a doctrine of responsibility to protect innocent civilians. in syria, you have an actual slaughter taking place. no action by the administration. i'm not arguing either way. i'm just saying this is a gross inconsistency. >> i think that it would be a misjudgment of president obama to say that he is not capable of using deadly force. the whole drone war would prove otherwise. i think we have to understand that in benghazi, we were dragged into that war simply to oust gadhafi and in syria, there are elements from outside syria, from a number of different countries that are fomenting the war there to try to knock out assad or keep the war going to debilitate assad and somehow adversely affect iran. so there is politics being played which are very deadly. the administration has to be very careful here. i think they know one thing and they better know it, and t
